disclamor...
i added an ongoing list of all the films i will be engaged with all semester long. i include this, not only because film is my favorite topic of discourse, but in the spirit of blogging/sharing information as well as the spirit of this course. Film, through DVD, is the dominant means by which i interact with the "digital world," and has become such an (must call it) obsession for me that, two years ago, i decided to continue my undergraduate studies, after a seven year hiatus, just so i could know more about it, learn its history and engage in its theories. That said, i greatly welcome any recommendations or queries. Just drop 'em here.

Have you seen the documentary Hard As Nails?
i believe that i saw a brief television interview of this guy a couple of years ago. i'll have to check it out.
i enjoyed reading viewer comments of this film. here's a particular favorite:
"This seems to be a movie about a charismatic speaker that at times tries to use mind control. Is this how we convert children to christanity especially Catholism. Remember how charismatic Hitler was. Maybe this person took lessons from him. I think Catholism has stepped mighty low if they have to resort to this."
now, i'm not a defender of christianity, catholocism, this guy's methods, and definitely not hitler, but i was amused by how this reviewer made such a leap in logic from "charismatic speaker" to "cult of personality."
Sean--You do more than watch the DVD's. You read viewer comments as well. Do you use film blogs or any other Web 2.0 media to read reviews and add your own? I'd be interested in hearing your opinions about worthwhile sites for such reviews. Dr. L
P.S. Sharp looking design for your blog!
I have not thought of "I am Curious Yellow" in decades! I wonder how I would respond to it now. Do you have it on DVD? Dr. L
oops. i rent dvd's through an online service. just sent it back yesterday, or i would've let you borrow it.
do you recall your initial reaction to it?
it left me fascinated and perhaps a little bit miffed.
